Liturgical Year: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Luke 10:1-12, 17-20
Jesus sent His disciples out to spread the Good News, knowing that they would not be welcome everywhere they went. His instructions were clear: speak peace to everyone and do good work amongst others but, if you are not made welcome, move on.
Our prayers this week will help children to respond lovingly when they are made to feel unwelcome. They will also pray to graciously accept hospitality from others when it is offered to them.
HOW TO LEAD
Each day follows the same format. For variety in older classes, you might like to choose a different child prayer leader each day, or even share out the role within each day.
The Prayer Leader reads the introductory text and the Gospel passage.
Allowing some space for reflection, the Prayer Leader then reads the ‘Thought for the Day’: an exploration of Jesus’ message that relates it to pupils’ lives.
The Prayer Leader says the final prayer (With older classes, you might choose to have the whole class read the prayer together).
If you would like to finish with a hymn of praise, a verse and chorus of ‘Give me Joy in my Heart’ is on each day’s final slide, which you might like to sing a cappella (without backing music). To familiarise yourself with the song you can watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg2Ik3Hwczc Alternatively hide these slides to omit them from the prayers.
Each day has a different focus:
- Monday - Being caring towards others even when they are not caring towards us.
- Tuesday - Accepting gratefully all the good things that come to us.
- Wednesday - Knowing that no matter how others treat us, we are all worthy of love and care.
- Thursday - Recognising that sharing and loving is God’s way of living.
- Friday - Doing good, not for a reward, but because it’s the right thing to do.
