Liturgical Year: 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Luke 5: 1-11
This week's Gospel is one of the best known in the Gospel - the calling of the first disciples. It is a simple yet dynamic account of Simon encountering Jesus. After a failed night of fishing, Simon follows a simple instruction from Jesus which shows extraordinary trust in Him and brings about a miracle – catching a huge number of fish after a night of catching nothing. After witnessing this, there is no hesitation in Simon when Jesus says, “Do not be afraid.” Simon leaves everything and follows Jesus.
This week's imaginative prayers help children to reflect on how they can invite Jesus into the different parts of their lives and trust Him with everything. We can give Jesus our little scraps and small offerings and He transforms them into something miraculous because of our trust and faith in Him. Will we trust Jesus with our family, friends, school work, worries, even the future? These are the different focus points for our prayers each day.
