God Needs Me
w/c 28 January 2019
Liturgical Year: 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21
When Jesus came to earth, He was on a mission from God – to tell people that God loved them and to help people in need.
The Gospel passage this week goes into greater detail about what this meant practically:
‘To bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.’ Luke 4:18-19
Children will learn a song that reminds them that, just like Jesus, they have each been given a special mission from God. God needs us to carry on the work that Jesus started – to tell people that God loves them and to help people in need.
Each day children will learn a new part of the song ‘God Needs Me!’ and listen to a simple teaching to give context. Each day finishes with a final prayer.
HOW TO LEAD
Choose which version of the prayers you will use, regular or simplified. Both are led the same way, but the simplified version has fewer words and so might be more suitable for younger children.
Click to reveal and read the text on the screen. After Monday, this is the same each day, and could be read by a child prayer leader.
Read the text on the screen, which provides context and teaching about the part of the song children will be learning:
Monday – We are all missionaries.
Tuesday – Jesus sends us His Holy Spirit to guide us.
Wednesday – We can listen to God’s voice speaking to us.
Thursday – Because of God’s love we can help those in need.
Friday – Summary of the week.
Learn a new part of the song ‘God Needs Me!’ Audio tracks are included in the PowerPoint presentation, and sheet music is provided in Appendix 1.
Finish by saying the short prayer together.
