Liturgical Year: 3rd Sunday of Advent
Gospel: (Luke 3:10-18)
We are beginning the third week of Advent and, usually, school is a very busy place at this time of year! There is so much preparation for Christmas going on that it can be difficult to find moments of silence and space to reflect on the coming feast and season of Christmas.
In this week's Gospel, we read that “a feeling of expectancy had grown among the people” and this week's prayers will help children to create space to “expect” Jesus' coming. This will be done through silent reflection and gentle, spoken prayer.
Each day, we meet someone from the Gospel story of Jesus' birth and anticipate the coming of Jesus through their eyes.
How to Lead:
This slide sets the scene and prepares children to 'make space' for Jesus. Music starts to play which continues across all the slides.
A child leader, or the teacher, reads the slide. Please paraphrase to make it suitable to the age and stage of your children.
With the music playing, invite children to imagine the person from the story of Jesus' birth and ask them to imagine 'making space' themselves in the way that Mary, Joseph, the Innkeeper, the Shepherds and the Wise Men did.
Finish by saying the text on the slide together.
