Called to Serve
w/c 13 May 2019
This Sunday we celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday, which is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life.
Christ is described as ‘The Good Shepherd’ who leads His sheep with love, care and tenderness. Priests and sisters follow Christ’s example and also give their lives for us, the ‘sheep’ who need earthly shepherds to follow.
Through hearing first-hand stories, this assembly will help children to reflect on the gift of priests and sisters and to pray for vocations of all types.
“The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice.”
John 10: 27-30
Key Point / Learning Objective:
Children will learn:
- What the word ‘vocation’ means.
- That priests and sisters are a gift to us.
- That we are called to pray for priests, sisters and vocations of all types.
- Listen to the stories and answer questions.
- Engage with a time of prayer for vocations.
- PowerPoint Presentation.
- Appendix 1 – The Gift of Priests and Sisters.
To accompany this assembly, we have provided an appendix document titled ‘The Gift of Priests and Sisters’ for teachers. This document contains many more comments from our research and provides a rich insight into the lives of priests and sisters. You may choose to highlight different quotations not used in this assembly script, or simply read the document for your own interest.
