Daily Classroom Prayers
w/c 09 March 2020
The Gospel this week describes the time when Jesus was transformed in front of Peter, James and John and, for a moment, they saw His divine nature. In these daily prayers, we think about how we are transformed by God’s love for us.
How to Lead
NB. The Prayer Leader can be a child.
Start the prayers with the sign of the cross on the title slide for each day. Then on Day 1 only, read the text on Slides 2-3 to introduce the idea of God’s transforming love.
After this, each day has 3 slides (labelled here as A, B and C):
- Each day’s image suggests a situation which gives us a choice of ways to respond. Present the situation (from the notes below) and invite ideas from the children about how they might respond. You might start with the least loving and ask for more and then even more loving responses – though be mindful not to encourage overly self-sacrificing behaviour.
- Music plays automatically as the Prayer Leader reads the prayer on the slide.
- Let the music play for a few moments of individual reflection.
- The Prayer Leader reads the prayer, then everyone makes the response.
You’ve been asked for help when you’re in the middle of watching tv.
Possible responses: Ignore / say you’ll come in a minute but don’t bother / go and help reluctantly / ask nicely whether you can finish what you’re doing, then go and help with a smile.
You’ve been given an exciting looking gift, but it’s only socks.
Possible Responses – say nothing / say thanks / write a thank you note.
A friend has hurt themselves while playing.
Possible Responses – Play on / see if they’re ok / stop or change the game until they feel better.
There’s a new pupil in your class who doesn’t know anyone.
Possible Responses – Do nothing / smile at them / start talking to them / invite them to join in at breaktime.
Your, somewhat annoying, little brother wants to play with you.
Possible Responses – Tell him he’s too young to play / let him join in for five minutes / play the game he wants today and agree to play yours tomorrow.
