Daily Classroom Prayers
w/c 23 September 2019
The Key Scripture from this week’s Gospel is ‘You cannot serve both God and money’. The guided, reflective prayers this week help children to identify how they relate to the big and small material things in their lives. Whilst knowing that material things are not bad and can indeed have great beauty, children are encouraged to put God first.
How to Lead
Sit children in a circle, or facing a focal point such as a picture, beautifully coloured scarf or piece of material, candle, open Bible etc.
To lead the prayer, you have two options:
- Simply play the music and reflection track included within the PowerPoint for each day.
- Play the music track and read the text in Appendix 1: Teacher Script yourself, so that you can adapt and change it according to your local needs. However, you may like to listen to the recorded voiceover to get a sense of the intended mood and tone.
The focus for each day is as follows:
‘You cannot serve both God and money’ - A prayerful reading called Lectio Divina which invites God to talk to us through the words of the scripture.
Seeing Beauty in the Little Things - A visualisation exercise encouraging children to appreciate and look after their things.
The Most Important Thing - A visualisation exercise where children imagine the most important thing to them and are invited to put God first.
Serving God by Serving Others - A breathing prayer to remind children that God is always with them and helps them to serve others.
Because He Loves Us - An adapted form of ‘soaking prayer’ to help children see themselves as part of God’s creation which exists because God loves us.
