Daily Classroom Prayers
w/c 16 September 2019
In this week’s Gospel, the Pharisees complain that Jesus 'welcomes sinners and eats with them'. In response, Jesus speaks three parables to the listeners which express the great desire of God to seek us out and find us - even when we have sinned and fallen short of God's plan for our lives. Based on the parable of The Lost Sheep, this week's prayers help children to recognise that although we all can become 'lost' because of sin, God is always seeking to find us, forgive us and welcome us home.
Each day, children are invited to reflect on an area in their life where they can become 'lost' through different types of sin. They are invited to know that through repentance - saying sorry - God welcomes them and rejoices over them!
How to Lead
NB. The prayer leader can be a child if you wish.
Children are reminded of the previous day’s prayer and how just like the shepherd in this week’s Gospel rejoiced when he found his lost sheep, Jesus welcomes each of us when we sin.
Children reflect on their lives and how we can become lost through different areas of sin. However, Jesus seeks us out and brings us back to friendship with God. Children have the opportunity to say sorry to God for the ways in which they have been ‘lost’.
- Monday - Becoming lost by hurting God.
- Tuesday - Becoming lost by hurting others.
- Wednesday - Becoming lost by hurting ourselves.
- Thursday - Becoming lost by hurting God's creation.
- Friday - Becoming lost by choosing not to do the right thing. (The formal name for this is 'sins of omission' which might be helpful to explain to KS2 children)
A final prayer, celebrating that God always seeks to find us, and that heaven rejoices when we are found!
