Prayers for Home
w/c 8 February 2021
Liturgical Year: 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time Cycle: B
Gospel: Mark 1: 29 – 39
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus showed how committed He was to prayer. Through our daily prayers this week, children will be reminded to pray throughout the day
Each morning there will be a time of praying for each other’s needs, then later in the day there will be an additional (brief!) time of themed prayer at an unexpected time, triggered by an alarm/bell.
The aim is to help children realise that they can pray about lots of different things, and at any time they want to. The alarm/bell should help encourage a sense of excitement. However, it is important that it is not allowed to become too gimmicky or like a game; the prayer times should be treated sincerely.
You will need:
A box of some kind that can be used as the ‘Prayer Box’.
An alarm/bell that can be used to trigger the additional prayer time each day.
Paper and writing materials (on Monday only)
A note on the ‘Prayer Box’
On Monday morning, children are invited to write prayer requests on slips of paper to put into the prepared box. Remind them only to write things they are happy to be read aloud.
You might like to invite children to add to this box in breaks/lunchtimes as they wish.
