Barry and Margaret Mizen MBE

Deeply inspired by their Catholic faith, Barry and Margaret Mizen, visit primary and secondary schools and well as confirmation groups to share the story of their son, Jimmy.

Title of session:
Forgiveness, Peace and Hope For Jimmy
Target age:
Key stages 1 – 4 with more emphasis on KS2 upwards.
Area available:
Throughout Great Britain
Fee:
Further information on request
Name of speaker:
Barry Mizen MBE and Margaret Mizen MBE
About the Speaker:
“Following our Jimmy’s death we were determined that with God’s grace we would not be beaten by what had happened and that something positive would be the result. In particular we have dedicated our efforts to working for peace.
"We have had a belief from the outset that the changes we would all like to see in our lives and our communities are not for the government and judicial system alone to solve. If we want to live in a more peaceful and compassionate society then there is a responsibility for each one of us to help make that happen.”

Their talks are tailored to suit all age groups; Margaret usually visits primary schools herself and gives a talk for Key Stage 1 which is aimed at encouraging children to be kind to one another, whilst the Key Stage 2 assembly focuses more directly on what happened to Jimmy in an age-appropriate way.

They also offer assemblies for Key Stage 3 and 4 upwards which focus more on what happened to Jimmy discussing actions and consequences therein. Following this, a couple of short DVD’s are shown of Jimmy growing up with his family and the work of For Jimmy now.  The talk concludes with a Question and Answer Session where Barry and Margaret answer openly and honestly about their Jimmy, their loss and their faith with the young people.
