Hope Filled Faith

Liturgical Year: Easter Week | Year C
Key Scripture: John 20:1-9

Faith is an understanding; being able to see in a spiritual way. It is not a leap in the dark but a leap in the light! This week’s prayers invite the Holy Spirit to help us understand and see, in faith, the Hope of Jesus’ Resurrection.

Sorry, as a trial user you are unable to download or print PowerPoint or PDFs. Please preview the Leader Sheet below.

These prayers cover Monday-Thursday in the week. Friday’s prayers can be created and led by Pupil Prayer Leaders using the Pupil Prayer Portal.

These prayers require a Prayer Leader and Reader(s). They can be adults or children. Where the Prayer Leader statements/questions are in bold, you might like to pause to reflect and/or share responses across the class.

Welcome / Gather
Word / Listen
Start the time of prayer by inviting children to make the Sign of the Cross.

Using the text in the slide’s Speaker Notes or the Daily Prayer Script, introduce/recap the theme of the prayers; inviting the Holy Spirit to increase our faith through:

Monday – Seeing hope
Tuesday – Speaking hope
Wednesday – Hearing hope
Thursday – Knowing hope

Worship / Prayer / Response
Lead a focused time of prayer and reflection on growing our hope filled faith using different prayer styles each day.

Witness / Send / Go / Mission
Invite children to reflect on how they can share and express their faith through their words and actions this week.

Finish with a prayer then invite children to conclude with the Sign of the Cross.

Key Stage Variation

  • Younger children might benefit from a shorter version of the Lectio Divina reading on Monday or using volunteers to act out the scene to aid understanding.
  • Older children might like to discuss the difference between ‘hope’ and ‘faith’ and how the two are linked.
  • On Wednesday, children could consider other ways we ‘hear’ to strengthen our faith, besides listening audibly. For example: hearing God speak to us in our hearts.

Lord,

Thank you for this opportunity to nurture the faith of the children in my care.

By the power of your Holy Spirit, lead and guide me as I prepare this time of collective worship and bless each and every child with an open heart and mind to hear your Word.

In your name, Jesus.

Amen
